Introducing Agnes Kapani-Voly - Housekeeper of the Year 2019

Last year ahs hospitality were honoured to have multiple nominees recognised at the HM Awards. One of these prestigious awards, within our industry, is the ‘Housekeeper of the Year’ award and in 2019 this honour went to our very own Agnes Kapani-Voly.

What are the HM Awards?

The HM Awards were established by Hotel Magazine to recognise excellence in the hotel industry in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region.​

What is Agnes Kapani-Voly’s story?

Agnes is a Housekeeping Executive at ahs hospitality, currently based in Sydney. She was awarded Housekeeper of the Year 2019, for her strong performance in her role throughout the year.

Agnes originally relocated to Australia from Papua New Guinea and after twelve years as an accountant decided to shift careers. After some searching, she found the perfect fit for her in housekeeping.

Agnes is a strong manager who values organisation, preparation, open communication and keeping a positive environment for her hardworking team members.

For Housekeeper of the Year 2020, Agnes encourages all potential nominees to be passionate, as she felt that is what her hotel’s General Manager noticed. Agnes cares about all her tasks and how they all contribute to the final result presented to guests.

What is Agnes’ management style?

Agnes prefers to approach things head-on. She believes it’s best to create a dialogue and resolve conflicts swiftly to avoid any resentments festering. She found producing quality work was the result of a harmonious team.

What’s Agnes’ advice for retaining staff?

Agnes emphasises proper on-boarding, comprehensive training and providing opportunities for progression to keep a solid and united team.
